Neck Pain Physiotherapy in Marple & Stockport

Neck pain is one of the most common issues we treat at Complete Recovery Physio in Marple. Whether you’re dealing with acute neck stiffness, tension headaches, whiplash, trapped nerves, postural pain from desk work, or long-standing chronic neck problems, our experienced physiotherapists can help you find real, lasting relief and restore smooth, pain-free movement.

We take a thorough, hands-on approach combining:

  • Detailed assessment to identify the exact cause of your neck pain
  • Manual therapy and gentle joint mobilisation
  • Targeted neck and shoulder strengthening programmes
  • Posture correction and ergonomic advice for work and daily life
  • Soft tissue release, trigger point therapy, and acupuncture (where appropriate)
  • Personalised rehabilitation to prevent recurrence

Our goal is always complete recovery — not just short-term symptom relief. Many of our patients in Marple, Stockport, and surrounding areas return to work, driving, sport, and everyday activities without the constant ache or headaches they once accepted as normal.

If neck pain is affecting your sleep, concentration, or quality of life, don’t wait for it to worsen. Early physiotherapy intervention can dramatically speed up recovery and reduce the risk of long-term issues.

Book your neck pain assessment today at Complete Recovery Physio, Marple. Conveniently located for Stockport, Hazel Grove, Romiley, and High Lane.

1. How quickly can physiotherapy help my neck pain?

Most patients at Complete Recovery Physio notice a meaningful reduction in neck pain and stiffness within the first 2–4 sessions. Tension headaches and trapped nerve symptoms often improve even faster.

We focus on treating the root cause (posture, muscle tightness, joint stiffness, or disc issues) rather than just masking the pain, which means you’re far less likely to suffer recurring episodes. The sooner you start treatment, the quicker and more complete your recovery usually is.

2. Do I need to see my GP or get a scan before booking physiotherapy?

No, you don’t. You can book directly with us.

Our experienced physiotherapists carry out a thorough neck assessment to accurately diagnose the cause of your pain. If we feel you need imaging (X-ray, MRI, etc.) or a GP review, we’ll arrange it promptly and let you know straight away.

Most people in Marple and Stockport save time and money by coming straight to physiotherapy.

3. Will my neck pain keep coming back, or can it actually be fixed?

This is a very common concern.

At Complete Recovery Physio, our goal is complete recovery, not just temporary relief. By combining hands-on treatment with targeted strengthening, posture correction, and ergonomic advice, we help the majority of our patients become pain-free and stay that way.

We’ll also teach you simple habits and exercises so you can protect your neck long-term — especially if you work at a desk, drive a lot, or use phones and laptops regularly.

FAQs

Neck Pain Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are the most common causes of neck pain we treat?

At Complete Recovery Physio in Marple, we commonly treat:

  • Postural neck pain from desk work or laptop use
  • Tension headaches and migraine-related neck stiffness
  • Whiplash and car accident injuries
  • Trapped nerves and arm pain (cervical radiculopathy)
  • Muscle strains and trigger points
  • Arthritis and age-related neck wear
  • Tech neck from phones and tablets

Our detailed assessment finds the exact cause so treatment is targeted and effective.

2. How long is a neck pain physiotherapy session?

Your first appointment is a 45-minute thorough assessment. This includes a full history, hands-on examination, and a clear explanation of your diagnosis.

Follow-up sessions are 30–60 minutes and include manual therapy, exercises, and treatment tailored to your needs. Most patients feel looser and more comfortable by the end of the first session.

3. Is physiotherapy effective for tension headaches and migraines?

Yes, very often. Many tension headaches and migraines are triggered by tight neck muscles, poor posture, and upper cervical joint stiffness.

We use a combination of manual therapy, posture correction, and specific exercises to significantly reduce headache frequency and intensity for most patients.

4. Can you help with long-standing or chronic neck pain?

Absolutely. Even if you’ve had back pain for months or years, it’s rarely too late to make meaningful improvements.

We specialise in chronic back pain and use a combination of manual therapy, movement retraining, and strength & conditioning to reduce pain, improve function, and rebuild confidence. Many patients who had “given up hope” are now pain-free or managing their backs far better than before.

5. How much does neck pain physiotherapy cost?

Initial 60-minute neck assessment: £70 Follow-up sessions (30 mins): £50

We are recognised by most major health insurance providers and can bill them directly where appropriate.

6. Do I need time off work for neck pain treatment?

Usually not. We offer early morning, daytime, and evening appointments to fit around your schedule.

Most patients with office or driving jobs return to work the same day with advice on posture, desk setup, and simple exercises to keep their neck moving safely.

7. Is your Marple clinic easy to get to?

Yes — we’re conveniently located in Marple with free parking right outside the clinic. We’re easily accessible from Stockport, Hazel Grove, Romiley, High Lane, New Mills, and the surrounding areas. Many patients travel from across Stockport because of our results with neck pain.

Rob was absolutely brilliant right from the first session. I had a very complex injury which he was able to advise on in a non-judgmental way. He is extremely knowledgable, helpful and was able to make so many individualised recommendations in terms of exercises and equipment. The support and advice he provided has made a HUGE difference and I really can’t recommend enough!

I had a deep tissue massage focusing on my back and legs, and it was absolutely amazing! The pressure was perfect, and I left feeling so much lighter and completely relaxed. I’m really pleased with the whole experience and will definitely be coming back again. Highly recommend!

Have been to see Rob twice now for a neck and shoulder strain and Robert asked me a number of questions to support some of the recovery methods he suggested. Rob was knowledgable, attentive and provided a very good massage around and on affected areas, which during the week helped my recovery. My second session was similar to the first and Rob checked affected areas for further tension and any pain.
I have to say since seeing Robert I have made a full recovery and very pleased with the result, happy I went to see him and wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Thanks again Complete Recovery Physiotherapy.

I would definitely recommend Rob at Complete Recovery Physiotherapy. I was a bit uncertain at first as to what to expect and how effective physio would be for me. Rob is extremely professional, and knowledgeable. He puts you at your ease and explains everything as he goes along. I am happy to say that after months if not years of not being able to turn my neck properly - I saw an improvement in two sessions and now I'm committed to continuing the exercises as my neck and back are improving week by week. Thank you Rob

I came to see Rob regarding ankle/foot/calf issue. I was using painkillers, hot/cold sprays, tubi grips. All this was adding up moneywise. I am so glad I decided to contact Rob rather than wait for months to be seen on the NHS. Within a couple of weeks of seeing Rob I had a great improvement, enough that I stopped the above selfcare. I can recommend Complete Recovery Physiotherapy .

Excellent! Rob began with a review where he made certain that he completely understood my medical history and my current problems. He then designed an exercise programme tailored to my needs. I have followed the programme and had 4 further physiotherapy sessions at my home with Rob, resulting in a significant improvement in my mobility and pain levels..
Rob is great guy, friendly, sympathetic and a good listener. He clearly knows his stuff. I strongly recommend him.

Rob is very professional and knowledgeable, really helped my husband (84) who was hospitalised for over 4 weeks and didn't get out of bed, he's got him up and running (not quite!). Hoping to move from the zimmer frame to the walking stick very soon. Would highly recommend, thank you Rob.
I'd been having trouble with my back for over a year and not had much luck with seeing the GP so did some research and came across Rob's services.
After just 4 sessions, I've been given some strength-building and stretching exercises which have reduced my pain massively and reduced the effect on my day-to-day life. I'm now in a much-improved position where I can continue to self manage and I'm confident it will only continue to improve.
Rob is friendly and knowledgeable and his facilities are professional and welcoming. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him if you need any support!

I contacted Rob because I was having pain in my neck. After two visits to him, I'm already starting to feel less pain. Rob gave me tips to keep the pain away.
and set me up on an app that gave me a neck program to complete each day, which does help. Rob is happy to answer any questions you may have and walk you through what he is going to do and how you can help yourself. If you're in pain, don't hesitate to contact Rob. You will thank yourself for it. Thanks for all your help, Rob.

I went to see Rob in a lot of pain having been told by my doctor I had arthritis and that was that. It wasn’t arthritis; and after a thorough examination, I was given daily exercises. He put them on an app so they were really easy to follow and I could rate my pain. I very quickly started to feel better and now feel no pain and my strength is improving.
Very good and he was very helpful...and good advice
