Introduction

Understanding Your Condition

The ankle is a hard-working joint that takes your full body weight with every step, so pain here affects almost everything you do — walking, stairs, running and standing. Ankle pain can come from a sprain, a tendon problem, the joint itself, or even be referred from the lower leg or back.

At Complete Recovery Physiotherapy in Marple, we assess precisely to identify the source of your ankle pain and build a targeted plan to settle it and restore strong, stable, comfortable movement. Ankles respond very well to the right treatment — once we know exactly what we're dealing with.

Who Physiotherapy Can Help

Ankle pain affects people of all ages and activity levels — from runners and court-sport players with recurring sprains to older adults with arthritic stiffness. We help people with acute injuries, ongoing instability and gradually-developing tendon or joint pain.

If your ankle pain is affecting walking, running, sport or simply getting about, we'll find the source and get you moving comfortably again.

Struggling with Ankle Pain?

Book your assessment today. We'll find the root cause and start hands-on treatment in your first session.

Your Assessment

Your assessment pinpoints the structure causing your ankle pain. We test the specific ligaments, tendons and joint, assess your movement, strength, balance and foot mechanics, and watch how you walk and move to understand the factors involved.

Because ankle pain has many possible sources — each needing different treatment — an accurate assessment is essential. We'll explain clearly what's causing your pain and build a plan matched to it.

How We Treat It

Our hands-on treatment approach:

  • Detailed assessment to identify the exact source of ankle pain
  • Hands-on treatment to ease pain, swelling and stiffness
  • Targeted strengthening of the calf, ankle and foot muscles
  • Balance, stability and proprioception work
  • Foot mechanics and footwear advice where relevant
  • A graded return to walking, running and daily activity
Your Timeline

Expected Recovery

Recovery depends on the cause. Acute sprains settle within a few weeks, tendon problems improve over 6–12 weeks of loading, and arthritic ankles respond steadily to strengthening and mobility work.

Strengthening and balance work is central to most ankle problems — a strong, well-controlled ankle is far more stable and far less likely to re-sprain. We give you a clear plan and realistic expectations for your specific condition.

Before You Book

Everything You Need to Know Before Booking

No GP referral needed. Direct access appointments available — often same-day or within a few days.

What Happens at Your First Appointment

Your first session is a 45-minute comprehensive assessment. We start by listening — understanding your symptoms, your history, and what you want to get back to. We then carry out a thorough hands-on physical examination to identify the root cause of your problem. You'll receive a clear explanation of what's going on, a personalised treatment plan, and hands-on treatment begins in that very first session. You leave knowing exactly what's wrong, what we'll do about it, and how long recovery will take.

What Should I Wear?

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to the area we're treating. For knee, hip, or leg problems, shorts are ideal. For shoulder, neck, or back issues, a loose top or vest works well. You'll never be asked to undress beyond what's necessary for examination and treatment, and you'll always be treated with dignity and respect in our private treatment room.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

This depends on your condition, how long you've had it, and your goals. Many patients feel significant improvement within 3–6 sessions. Acute injuries often resolve faster, while long-standing or complex conditions may need more. We'll give you a clear treatment timeline at your first appointment — and we only ever recommend sessions you genuinely need. Our goal is to get you independent and pain-free as quickly as possible, not to keep you coming back.

Can I Claim Through Insurance?

Yes. We are recognised by most major health insurance providers including AXA, Vitality, Bupa, WPA, and Healix. We can bill your insurer directly so you don't need to pay upfront — simply bring your insurance authorisation number to your appointment. If you're not sure whether you're covered, call us and we'll help you check before you book.
