Exercise Rehabilitation
Exercise rehabilitation is the structured, progressive programme that rebuilds your strength, movement and confidence after injury or surgery — turning short-term relief into lasting recovery, guided by physiotherapists at our Marple clinic.

Introduction
Hands-on treatment can settle your pain, but it's exercise rehabilitation that keeps it away. A well-designed, progressive exercise programme rebuilds the strength, control and resilience your body needs to function properly — and to stay that way.
At Complete Recovery Physiotherapy in Marple, we don't hand you a generic printout. Every programme is built around your body, your problem and your goals, progressed at the right pace, and explained clearly so you understand exactly what you're doing and why. Whether you're recovering from surgery, managing a long-standing problem, or returning to sport, your rehab is as individual as you are.

Common Symptoms
- Weakness or muscle wasting after injury, surgery or inactivity
- Recurring pain or niggles whenever you increase activity
- Instability or a feeling a joint 'gives way'
- Loss of movement or flexibility that won't resolve
- Difficulty returning to sport, work or daily tasks
- Pain that eases with rest but returns the moment you restart
- Poor balance or confidence on your feet
- Stiffness and tightness recurring despite stretching
Common Causes
- Muscle deconditioning after injury, surgery or immobilisation
- Imbalances between opposing muscle groups
- Weak stabilising muscles failing to support a joint
- Returning to activity too quickly without adequate strength
- Repetitive strain from sport, work or daily posture
- Age-related loss of muscle mass and joint mobility
- Incomplete rehab after a previous injury
- Compensatory movement patterns that overload other tissues
Who Physiotherapy Can Help
Exercise rehabilitation helps almost everyone we see, because strength and control underpin recovery from virtually every musculoskeletal problem. We design programmes for people recovering from surgery, managing ongoing joint or tendon pain, returning to sport, rebuilding after a period of inactivity, or simply wanting to move better and stay independent as they age.
It's equally valuable whether you're an athlete targeting a return to performance or someone who wants to lift a grandchild without pain. Your programme is always scaled to your starting point — you don't need to be fit, sporty or strong to begin.

Book your assessment today and get a clear diagnosis, hands-on treatment, and a personalised recovery plan.
Your Assessment
Your programme starts with a thorough assessment of your movement, strength, flexibility, balance and the specific demands of your daily life or sport. We identify which muscles are weak, which movements are limited, and which patterns are causing your problem to persist.
From there we set clear, measurable goals and build your programme step by step. We'll talk you through each exercise, watch you perform it, and make sure you're confident doing it at home — because a programme only works if you actually do it correctly and consistently.
Your Treatment Plan
Your rehabilitation progresses through clear stages, each building on the last. We advance you when your body is ready — not before, and not so late that you stagnate.
Settle & Activate
Gentle activation of key muscles, pain-free movement and the foundations of control, while your tissues settle.
Build Strength
Progressive loading rebuilds strength and capacity in the muscles that support your joints and movement.
Restore Function
We integrate strength into functional, real-life movements so it carries over into daily activities and sport.
Perform & Prevent
Higher-level work, sport-specific drills and a maintenance plan so you stay strong and reduce the risk of recurrence.
Treatment Techniques
Expected Recovery
Progress depends on your starting point, your consistency, and your goals. Some people see meaningful change within 2–4 weeks, while rebuilding after surgery or tackling a long-standing problem is typically a 6–12 week journey.
The single most important factor is consistency — doing your programme regularly between sessions. We make it realistic, fitting around your life, and we adjust it as you progress so you keep moving forward. By the end of your plan, you'll have the strength, knowledge and confidence to manage your body independently and keep the problem from coming back.
Everything You Need to Know Before Booking
No GP referral needed. Direct access appointments available — often same-day or within a few days.
What Happens at Your First Appointment
Your first session is a 45-minute comprehensive assessment. We start by listening — understanding your symptoms, your history, and what you want to get back to. We then carry out a thorough hands-on physical examination to identify the root cause of your problem. You'll receive a clear explanation of what's going on, a personalised treatment plan, and hands-on treatment begins in that very first session. You leave knowing exactly what's wrong, what we'll do about it, and how long recovery will take.
What Should I Wear?
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to the area we're treating. For knee, hip, or leg problems, shorts are ideal. For shoulder, neck, or back issues, a loose top or vest works well. You'll never be asked to undress beyond what's necessary for examination and treatment, and you'll always be treated with dignity and respect in our private treatment room.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
This depends on your condition, how long you've had it, and your goals. Many patients feel significant improvement within 3–6 sessions. Acute injuries often resolve faster, while long-standing or complex conditions may need more. We'll give you a clear treatment timeline at your first appointment — and we only ever recommend sessions you genuinely need. Our goal is to get you independent and pain-free as quickly as possible, not to keep you coming back.
Can I Claim Through Insurance?
Yes. We are recognised by most major health insurance providers including AXA, Vitality, Bupa, WPA, and Healix. We can bill your insurer directly so you don't need to pay upfront — simply bring your insurance authorisation number to your appointment. If you're not sure whether you're covered, call us and we'll help you check before you book.
