Balance Rehabilitation
Balance rehabilitation rebuilds the strength, coordination and confidence that keep you steady on your feet — reducing dizziness, unsteadiness and the risk of falls through tailored physiotherapy at our Marple clinic.

Introduction
Good balance is something we take for granted — until it starts to fail. Unsteadiness, dizziness or a loss of confidence on your feet can be genuinely limiting, affecting your independence, your activity and your peace of mind. The encouraging news is that balance is a skill your body can relearn and strengthen with the right, targeted rehabilitation.
At Complete Recovery Physiotherapy in Marple, we help people whose balance has been affected by ageing, vestibular problems, injury, surgery or inactivity. We assess what's behind your unsteadiness and build a safe, progressive programme that rebuilds steadiness and confidence — so you can move through life feeling sure of your footing again.

Common Symptoms
- Feeling unsteady, wobbly or off-balance
- Dizziness or light-headedness on movement or standing

- A previous fall or near-fall you want to avoid repeating
- Needing to hold on to furniture or walls at home
- Unsteadiness on stairs or uneven ground
- Difficulty turning or changing direction quickly
- Feeling disoriented in busy or low-light environments
Common Causes
- Age-related changes to balance and muscle strength
- Vestibular (inner ear) conditions affecting stability
- Muscle weakness, especially in the legs and core
- Deconditioning after illness, surgery or inactivity
- Neck-related dizziness or cervicogenic imbalance
- Medication side effects
- Reduced sensation or proprioception in the feet

Who Physiotherapy Can Help
Balance rehabilitation helps people of all ages whose steadiness has been affected. We commonly work with older adults concerned about falls, people recovering from vestibular episodes or inner-ear problems, those rebuilding strength and confidence after surgery or illness, and anyone who has lost their surefootedness and wants it back.
If you're avoiding activities because you don't trust your balance, or you've started to limit where you go and what you do through fear of falling, this service is for you. We meet you at your current level and build steadily from there — you don't need to be steady to start.

Your Assessment
Your assessment is calm and thorough. We take a detailed history of your symptoms, your falls or near-falls, your medical history and medications, then assess your balance, strength, mobility, sensation and the specific systems involved in keeping you steady — including screening for vestibular factors where relevant.
This careful assessment matters because balance has many possible causes, and the right treatment depends entirely on what's driving your unsteadiness. We'll explain our findings and build a plan that targets your specific balance problem, not a generic 'stand on one leg' routine.
Your Treatment Plan
Your programme is safe, progressive and tailored to the cause of your unsteadiness. We combine specific balance exercises, strengthening, and — where appropriate — vestibular rehabilitation, all progressed only as you're ready.
Assess & Stabilise
We identify the cause of your unsteadiness and begin safe, supported exercises to build confidence and a foundation of control.
Strengthen & Steady
We rebuild strength in the muscles that keep you upright and begin targeted balance work in supported, controlled positions.
Challenge & Progress
Balance exercises are progressively made harder — reducing support, adding movement and introducing real-world scenarios.
Confidence & Independence
We rebuild confidence in everyday situations and give you a simple plan to maintain your steadiness long-term.
Treatment Techniques
Expected Recovery
Many people notice improved steadiness and confidence within 4–6 weeks of consistent balance work. The improvements tend to build steadily as your strength, coordination and confidence grow together.
For vestibular-related balance problems, specific rehabilitation exercises can produce meaningful change, sometimes more quickly. Throughout, we focus on practical, real-world steadiness — walking confidently, managing stairs and uneven ground, and feeling safe in your daily life — with a maintenance plan to keep you steady for the long term.
Everything You Need to Know Before Booking
No GP referral needed. Direct access appointments available — often same-day or within a few days.
What Happens at Your First Appointment
Your first session is a 45-minute comprehensive assessment. We start by listening — understanding your symptoms, your history, and what you want to get back to. We then carry out a thorough hands-on physical examination to identify the root cause of your problem. You'll receive a clear explanation of what's going on, a personalised treatment plan, and hands-on treatment begins in that very first session. You leave knowing exactly what's wrong, what we'll do about it, and how long recovery will take.
What Should I Wear?
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to the area we're treating. For knee, hip, or leg problems, shorts are ideal. For shoulder, neck, or back issues, a loose top or vest works well. You'll never be asked to undress beyond what's necessary for examination and treatment, and you'll always be treated with dignity and respect in our private treatment room.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
This depends on your condition, how long you've had it, and your goals. Many patients feel significant improvement within 3–6 sessions. Acute injuries often resolve faster, while long-standing or complex conditions may need more. We'll give you a clear treatment timeline at your first appointment — and we only ever recommend sessions you genuinely need. Our goal is to get you independent and pain-free as quickly as possible, not to keep you coming back.
Can I Claim Through Insurance?
Yes. We are recognised by most major health insurance providers including AXA, Vitality, Bupa, WPA, and Healix. We can bill your insurer directly so you don't need to pay upfront — simply bring your insurance authorisation number to your appointment. If you're not sure whether you're covered, call us and we'll help you check before you book.
