What It Is

Introduction

The best injury is the one that never happens. Most musculoskeletal injuries aren't bad luck — they're the result of identifiable weak links: a strength deficit, a movement fault, a training-load error, or a restriction waiting to cause trouble. Injury prevention means finding and fixing those issues before they ever become pain.

At Complete Recovery Physiotherapy in Marple, we help runners, sportspeople, gym-goers and active adults stay ahead of injury. Using movement screening, strength testing and a clear understanding of your training and goals, we pinpoint your individual risk factors and build a practical plan to address them — so you can train harder, perform better and break down less often.

Common Symptoms

  • Recurring niggles that keep coming back despite rest
  • A sense something 'isn't quite right' in your movement
  • Stiffness or tightness that limits your training
  • Past injuries you don't want to repeat
  • Plateauing performance despite consistent training
  • Pain that appears when you increase training volume
  • One side or muscle group noticeably weaker than the other
  • Planning a big event and worried about staying injury-free

Common Causes

  • Strength imbalances between muscle groups
  • Poor movement control or biomechanics
  • Training-load errors — too much, too soon, too fast
  • Inadequate recovery between sessions
  • Restricted mobility limiting efficient movement
  • Previous injury leaving lingering weakness
  • Inappropriate footwear or equipment
  • Lack of structured strength work alongside sport
Is This Right for You?

Who Physiotherapy Can Help

Injury prevention is for anyone who wants to stay active without the frustration of repeated setbacks. We work with runners building towards an event, team-sport athletes wanting a full season injury-free, gym-goers progressing their training, and active adults who simply want to keep doing what they love without breaking down.

It's particularly valuable if you've had injuries before and don't want a repeat, or if you're increasing your training — stepping up distance, frequency or intensity — and want to do it safely rather than just hoping for the best.

What to Expect

Your Assessment

Your assessment is proactive rather than reactive. We screen your movement, test your strength and flexibility, assess your balance and control, and review your training and goals. This identifies the specific factors that could lead to injury for you — because they're different for everyone.

We'll explain our findings clearly, showing you where your risks lie and what to do about them. You'll leave understanding your body better — knowing what to strengthen, what to stretch, how to manage your training load, and how to keep yourself robust and resilient.

Treatment

Your Treatment Plan

Injury prevention is mostly about building robustness. We combine targeted strengthening, movement correction and practical training-load advice to make your body more resilient to the demands you place on it.

Movement screening and strength testing pinpoint your individual risk factors — the weak links that could become injuries.

2

A focused strengthening programme addresses your specific deficits, building resilience into the muscles that protect your joints.

3

We address movement faults, mobility restrictions and technique to improve how your body handles the demands of your activity.

Your Timeline

Expected Recovery

Injury prevention isn't about recovering from a set injury — it's about building resilience over time. Most people see measurable improvements in strength, control and movement within 4–6 weeks of consistent work, with reduced niggles and more robust training.

The real reward is what doesn't happen: the injury you avoid, the season you complete, the event you reach in one piece. We give you a sustainable plan you can build into your weekly routine, so staying injury-free becomes a habit rather than a hope.

Before You Book

Everything You Need to Know Before Booking

No GP referral needed. Direct access appointments available — often same-day or within a few days.

What Happens at Your First Appointment

Your first session is a 45-minute comprehensive assessment. We start by listening — understanding your symptoms, your history, and what you want to get back to. We then carry out a thorough hands-on physical examination to identify the root cause of your problem. You'll receive a clear explanation of what's going on, a personalised treatment plan, and hands-on treatment begins in that very first session. You leave knowing exactly what's wrong, what we'll do about it, and how long recovery will take.

What Should I Wear?

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to the area we're treating. For knee, hip, or leg problems, shorts are ideal. For shoulder, neck, or back issues, a loose top or vest works well. You'll never be asked to undress beyond what's necessary for examination and treatment, and you'll always be treated with dignity and respect in our private treatment room.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

This depends on your condition, how long you've had it, and your goals. Many patients feel significant improvement within 3–6 sessions. Acute injuries often resolve faster, while long-standing or complex conditions may need more. We'll give you a clear treatment timeline at your first appointment — and we only ever recommend sessions you genuinely need. Our goal is to get you independent and pain-free as quickly as possible, not to keep you coming back.

Can I Claim Through Insurance?

Yes. We are recognised by most major health insurance providers including AXA, Vitality, Bupa, WPA, and Healix. We can bill your insurer directly so you don't need to pay upfront — simply bring your insurance authorisation number to your appointment. If you're not sure whether you're covered, call us and we'll help you check before you book.
