Balance Issues
Balance problems cause unsteadiness and increase fall risk, often from the vestibular system, ageing or weakness. We rebuild your balance, strength and confidence at our Marple clinic.

Understanding Your Condition
Good balance is something we take for granted — until it's compromised. Balance problems cause unsteadiness, a lack of confidence and an increased risk of falls, and they can come from the vestibular system, normal ageing, weakness, or a combination. The good news is that balance can be retrained at almost any age.
At Complete Recovery Physiotherapy in Marple, we assess the cause of your balance issues and build a structured programme of vestibular and strength exercises that rebuild your stability and confidence, reducing your fall risk and helping you stay active and independent.

Who Physiotherapy Can Help
Balance issues affect adults of all ages, but particularly older adults in whom balance naturally declines and fall risk rises. We help people with vestibular balance problems, age-related unsteadiness, and the loss of confidence that often follows a fall.
If you feel unsteady, hold on to furniture, or have had a fall or near-fall, balance rehabilitation can significantly improve your stability and confidence and reduce your fall risk. It's never too late to improve your balance.
Struggling with Balance Issues?
Book your assessment today. We'll find the root cause and start hands-on treatment in your first session.
Your Assessment
Your assessment identifies the factors affecting your balance. We assess your vestibular system, strength, sensation, joint mobility and your balance in standing and walking, and screen for medical contributors.
Balance problems usually have several contributing factors, so finding all of yours is key to an effective programme. We'll explain what we've found and build a plan to rebuild your stability and confidence.
How We Treat It
Our hands-on treatment approach:
- Assessment to identify the factors affecting your balance
- Vestibular rehabilitation exercises where relevant
- Strengthening of the legs, hips and core
- Balance and proprioception training, progressed safely
- Practical advice on fall prevention and home safety
- A progressive plan to restore confidence and activity
Expected Recovery
Balance can be significantly improved at almost any age with consistent, appropriately-progressed exercises. Most people see real improvement within 6–8 weeks and continue to build strength and confidence with an ongoing routine.
Retraining balance takes practice — your brain and muscles adapt and strengthen with regular challenge. We guide safe, progressive exercises so you keep improving toward confident, independent movement and a reduced fall risk.
Everything You Need to Know Before Booking
No GP referral needed. Direct access appointments available — often same-day or within a few days.
What Happens at Your First Appointment
Your first session is a 45-minute comprehensive assessment. We start by listening — understanding your symptoms, your history, and what you want to get back to. We then carry out a thorough hands-on physical examination to identify the root cause of your problem. You'll receive a clear explanation of what's going on, a personalised treatment plan, and hands-on treatment begins in that very first session. You leave knowing exactly what's wrong, what we'll do about it, and how long recovery will take.
What Should I Wear?
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to the area we're treating. For knee, hip, or leg problems, shorts are ideal. For shoulder, neck, or back issues, a loose top or vest works well. You'll never be asked to undress beyond what's necessary for examination and treatment, and you'll always be treated with dignity and respect in our private treatment room.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
This depends on your condition, how long you've had it, and your goals. Many patients feel significant improvement within 3–6 sessions. Acute injuries often resolve faster, while long-standing or complex conditions may need more. We'll give you a clear treatment timeline at your first appointment — and we only ever recommend sessions you genuinely need. Our goal is to get you independent and pain-free as quickly as possible, not to keep you coming back.
Can I Claim Through Insurance?
Yes. We are recognised by most major health insurance providers including AXA, Vitality, Bupa, WPA, and Healix. We can bill your insurer directly so you don't need to pay upfront — simply bring your insurance authorisation number to your appointment. If you're not sure whether you're covered, call us and we'll help you check before you book.
