What It Is

Introduction

Neurological conditions — whether from stroke, Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis, vestibular problems or other nerve-related conditions — can affect your movement, strength, balance, coordination and confidence. Specialist neurological rehabilitation helps you recover what you can, manage what remains, and live as fully and independently as possible.

At Complete Recovery Physiotherapy in Marple, we provide tailored neuro rehabilitation for people at every stage of their journey. We assess how your condition is affecting you, set realistic, meaningful goals, and build a progressive programme that combines hands-on treatment, targeted exercise and practical guidance to help you move better and feel more confident.

Our clinic has two steps at the entrance, so patients attending the clinic will need a basic level of mobility. If accessing the clinic is difficult, we also offer home visit physiotherapy throughout the local area.

Who Physiotherapy Can Help

Neuro rehabilitation is for anyone whose movement, balance or function has been affected by a neurological condition. We work with people recovering from stroke, living with Parkinson's or MS, managing vestibular and balance disorders, and rebuilding strength after illness or surgery.

You don't need to be in a crisis to benefit — many of our patients come to maintain function, stay ahead of changes their condition brings, or rebuild confidence after a setback. Everything is tailored to your starting point, your abilities and what matters most to you.

What to Expect

Your Assessment

Your assessment is thorough, unhurried and built around you. We take time to understand your condition, your medical history, your medications and how your symptoms affect your daily life. We assess your movement, strength, balance, coordination and the specific activities that matter to you, in a calm and supportive way.

Crucially, we listen. We want to know what you're struggling with, what you're worried about, and what you'd love to be able to do again. That understanding shapes a realistic, achievable plan that fits your life and your priorities.

Treatment

Your Treatment Plan

Treatment is progressive, patient-led and always at your pace. We combine hands-on treatment to ease stiffness and improve movement with targeted exercises that build strength, balance and coordination — plus practical advice for managing your condition day to day.

1

Assess & Set Goals

We assess how your condition affects you and agree clear, meaningful goals that matter to you — from walking further to managing stairs or regaining confidence.

2

Move & Strengthen

Targeted, progressive exercises rebuild strength, movement and control, tailored to your ability and progressed only as you're ready.

3

Balance & Coordinate

Safe, supervised balance and coordination work improves steadiness and confidence, reducing fall risk and rebuilding trust in your body.

4

Function & Independence

We work towards the everyday activities that matter to you, with a maintenance plan to keep you progressing long after your sessions end.

Treatment Techniques

Targeted strengthening and functional exercises
Balance, coordination and gait re-education
Vestibular rehabilitation and habituation exercises
BPPV repositioning manoeuvres where indicated
Hands-on mobilisation and soft tissue treatment
Movement pattern retraining
Fall prevention and confidence-building work
Carer and family education where helpful
Your Timeline

Expected Recovery

Recovery from a neurological condition is often gradual and ongoing rather than quick, but meaningful progress is almost always possible with the right, consistent rehabilitation. Many people see real improvements in strength, balance and confidence within 6–12 weeks of regular work.

For long-term conditions, neuro rehabilitation is as much about maintaining function and preventing decline as it is about recovery. We give you a sustainable plan you can continue at home, and we're here to support you through flare-ups, changes and new goals whenever you need us.

Before You Book

Everything You Need to Know Before Booking

No GP referral needed. Direct access appointments available — often same-day or within a few days.

What Happens at Your First Appointment

Your first session is a 45-minute comprehensive assessment. We start by listening — understanding your symptoms, your history, and what you want to get back to. We then carry out a thorough hands-on physical examination to identify the root cause of your problem. You'll receive a clear explanation of what's going on, a personalised treatment plan, and hands-on treatment begins in that very first session. You leave knowing exactly what's wrong, what we'll do about it, and how long recovery will take.

What Should I Wear?

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to the area we're treating. For knee, hip, or leg problems, shorts are ideal. For shoulder, neck, or back issues, a loose top or vest works well. You'll never be asked to undress beyond what's necessary for examination and treatment, and you'll always be treated with dignity and respect in our private treatment room.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

This depends on your condition, how long you've had it, and your goals. Many patients feel significant improvement within 3–6 sessions. Acute injuries often resolve faster, while long-standing or complex conditions may need more. We'll give you a clear treatment timeline at your first appointment — and we only ever recommend sessions you genuinely need. Our goal is to get you independent and pain-free as quickly as possible, not to keep you coming back.

Can I Claim Through Insurance?

Yes. We are recognised by most major health insurance providers including AXA, Vitality, Bupa, WPA, and Healix. We can bill your insurer directly so you don't need to pay upfront — simply bring your insurance authorisation number to your appointment. If you're not sure whether you're covered, call us and we'll help you check before you book.
